Damaging effects of Pollution on Skin
Pollution causes release of free radicals in the skin. These are very damaging not only to skin and hair but to other parts of body such as heart, liver , lungs etc. The ill-effects of pollution are worsened when person is exposed to sunlight, smoking, etc. Some of the effects of pollution on skin are:
- Skin aging and wrinkles-Pollution triggers the destruction of collagen and elastin – resulting in sagging skin and deeper wrinkles.
- Pale skin colour and uneven skin tone as pollution deprives the skin of oxygen and nutrients.
- Dry and dehydrated skin– Pollution reduces the skin's moisture levels causing dry and dehydrated skin.
- Acne flares : The pollution in the air can worsen the acne in persons who already have acne or are predisposed to acne tendency.
So here are a few skin care tips to counter these ill effects of pollution on your skin:
- Daily use of a sunscreen with in-built moisturizers.
- Diet high in Fruits and vegetables.
- Use of antioxidant vitamins such as those containing Vitamin A, E, C which help to prevent free radical damage.
- Use of topical agents containing vitamin C and vit A serums and creams on face are very helpful.
- Also anti acne face wash and acne creams help combat the pollution and build up of keratin , thus preventing acne flares.
