Hair Care during monsoons
The monsoons may be romantic, but in reality, the weather takes a toll on your biggest accessory: your hair! Monsoon humidity leaves hair looking worn-out, lifeless and brittle.
Another hair issue is the presence of environmental pollutants in rainwater that culminates in fungal infection on scalp that weakens roots and causes hair fall. The humidity in the air, during this season causes the hair scalp to remain wet, when the hair scalp gets wet and stay like that there is a chance to dandruff.As much as we hate to admit, the problem is rather severe and has to be dealt with promptness. Let me run you through a few hair care tips that will help you throughout this season.
- First and foremost, try and protect your hair from rains, but that’s something impossible as we get caught in rains at least once in a while. If that’s the case as soon as you reach home its best to wash your hair with a mild shampoo and let it dry.
- Always apply shampoos in a gentle manner and do not forget to use a conditioner in this season after every wash.
- At night times, massage your hair with warm coconut oil and comb your hair for the even distribution of oil on your scalp and hair.
- You can also try applying warm oil mixed with curry leaves for your hair to remain thick. This also prevents graying.
- Usually in this season you invite itchy scalp. For such irritating scalp applying neem oil, it is the best remedy.
- Beer is a good conditioner. Initially wash your hair with beer and after few minutes wash it off with cold water.
- Use of hair dryers though necessary it is better suggested if you limit its usage. Instead opt for dry towels to remove moist from your hair.
One major concern in monsoons is how to prevent hair fall? Here are few things everyone should try and do.
- Keep your hair dry. It’s essential to keep your hair dry, as far as possible. So yes, try and keep moisture and wetness out of your hair.
- Don’t over indulge in hair styling products. Due to the excess humidity in the air owing to the monsoon season, chemical based products will make your hair very greasy. Besides feeling icky and causing hair fall, it can also damage your scalp and dandruff too.
- Include protein in your diet. Salmon, chicken, fish, eggs, carrots, whole grains, dark green veggies, kidney beans, nuts and low-fat dairy products are all rich sources of protein. And protein is one of the most vital nutrients for strong hair besides being the building blocks of the body.
- For those who have short hair (especially men), shampoo daily. Wash and condition your hair as soon as you get home. This is the only way you can keep your hair and scalp clean. Regular shampooing won’t lead to hair loss or dry scalp, provided you use a mild shampoo.
- Drink plenty of water. Drinking at least 8-12 glasses of water daily is another tip to prevent hair loss inmonsoon. Water helps wash off the toxins from our body. These toxins along with fungal infections can aggravate hair loss problem. Drink distilled water or filtered water which is devoid of chlorine, lead etc. for healthy hair.
- Use Aloe Vera gel, it is considered to be a miracle plant when it comes to all-natural hair care remedies. It can be used to treat dandruff, split ends and hair fall problems in any season. Massaging Aloe Vera gel into the scalp restores pH balance, reduces hair bacteria, relieves scalp itching, promotes hair growth and eliminates dandruff among many other notable benefits.
- Cut caffeine! This can actually be one of the hardest, but excessive caffeine intake leads to dehydration which is another key reason for hair loss. So, the tip is to replace your daily coffee intake with a fruit beverage, milk, herbal tea or any other non-caffeinated drink to get a healthy and a shiny crown.
