Pre-Monsoon Skin Care For Children
Monsoon is the season of excitement, fun and greenery. However, the season also invites a number of health and skin problems which is very difficult to be dealt with such illness. One should take proper precautions to avoid such problems peeping into your body. Kids need extra care during this season to stay healthy and skin healthy as they are prone to infections, as well skin ailments like rashes, fungal infections etc.
A few things one can keep in mind for their children’s skin health in this season are :
- Keep rain gear with you always and clean it regularly – The most effective thing that you can do is to keep your child’s rain gear always ready when you go out in the rainy season. A raincoat with hooded jacket and waterproof shoes are the best items. Make sure it's washed regularly, with antibacterial at least once a week.
- Vitamin C : Increasing the intake of Vitamin C either in natural form or as food supplement will help you drive away the viruses faster.
- Make the child shower immediately after being caught in rain – Although it sounds very unusual because if you are drenched in rain, you will never want to take another shower. But taking a shower after you have been caught in the rain will protect your child from many infections.
- After a shower making them apply powder like candid or nycil under their arms once a day is advisable.
- Cleanliness : Micro-organisms are susceptible to grow in the rainy season, try to maintain hygiene around your child. Cleanliness is very important during rainy season. One should make sure their children wash their hands regularly and/ or use a sanitizer always after that.
- Drink plenty of Water : Water intake may reduce naturally because of the sudden drop in the temperature of the environment. It is good to drink plenty of water and do not wait to get thirsty to drink water. This will help your child drain toxins from their body.
- Watch your Intake : Try to feed your child nutritious food and avoid eating out during rainy season. Prepare meal with full precaution and maintain health and hygiene throughout the house.
- Make sure you trim your child's nails : Hand and toe nails should be trimmed regularly during monsoons in order to avoid infections and skin eruptions.
- Keeping antibiotic and antiseptic cream in your medicine box in case of travels during monsoons with children is a must.
One way to keep your child “skin healthy” in monsoons is the diet you feed your child.
- Foods that have natural antioxidants like cherries, green almonds, peaches, litchee, jamun and plums. These will enhance your kid’s immunity against diseases.
- You should use spices at the time of cooking your kid’s meal. Spices like pepper, garlic and ginger. These will help for their digestion.
- Offer your kid almonds, walnuts, prunes and dates.
- Whole boiled eggs.
- Pulses and soya are also a good for kids in this season.
- Dry cereals like oats, corn, chickpea are also good.
You should not offer your child the following :
- Too oily, too spicy and roadside foods.
- Raw veggies, salads and fruits.
- Raw sprouts.
- Muskmelons, watermelons and mangoes.
- Cold drinks or cold water.
- Shellfishes.
